Professional Services Sales Tax in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on property tax reform during the week of October 29, 2007.  One of the proposals is to raise additional revenues by enacting a broader sales tax, which would include professional services such as legal fees, accounting services, banking and insurance transactions, and business services.

A sales tax on legal services will in many cases be born by lawyers, their clients, and those seeking legal services who can least afford it:  it would also create an accounting nightmare for any law firm.

Please fax or email our state legislators and urge them to categorically and absolutely oppose ANY measure that would extend the sales tax to include professional services.  A listing of our legislators can be found at: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/find.cfm  Click on a county to find the list of legislators that serve in your area.
